For my auditions I am going to use the artists Sam Smith and Christina Perri. The song that I have chosen by Sam Smith 'Lay Me Down'. The second song I am choosing is Human, this song contrasts Sam Smith's song as it is a female voice so uses a slightly different range and I've had to try and work on this.

Week 2
In Monday's lesson I practised and recorded 'Lay Me Down' by Sam Smith, I recorded most of the song which is on SoundCloud.
Evaluation of Lay Me Down
I am happy with my recording, even though it was only a practise I tried my very best, I noticed that I wasn't in time, it wasn't off but it was slightly off tune. So in my practise on Friday I will sing slower, so I think before I record I will sing along with the Sam Smith Song so I can get it as accurate as possible.
Week 3
In music on Friday me and Monique decided that for one audition when I sing the song 'Lay Me Down' that Monique would do that piano which counts as one of her pieces and I will sing as one of mine. We looked at the chords and they go very slow, and in my practise piece I sang quite fast, so when I practise I will make sure I will sing slow so it is in time, so when I sing I will put Sam Smith version in the background. In my singing lesson with Mr Gower on Tuesday I sang Lay Me Down, we went through it and he gave me targets such as, I shouldn't take as many breaths when I am singing the chorus.
Week 4
On Friday's music lesson, I practised 'We can't stop' Bastille cover, which will be next audition after I record Lay Me Down. We also watched Sophie's audition of, 'The A Team' I think she was confident while singing and sang very well, the only thing that she lacked was stage presence and just stood there reading the lyrics and didn't move much. So when I audition I will hopefully try and gain more confidence and move and look up more.
Week 5
On Friday before half term I did my audition which was video recorded of 'Lay Me Down' by Sam Smith.

Evaluation:
I think my audition went well as I got the lyrics right and I looked at the camera and showed stage presence as I moved about and didn't just stand there. As I used a backing track from YouTube, I did notice that I went out of tune sometimes and sang before the music of that chorus/verse started. For this song I do know it well but I preferred having the lyrics in front of me just in case I mess up at any stage, but I still got a few lyrics incorrect, so on my next audition, I will practise so I understand the timing better and hopefully memorise the lyrics and not worry about them.
Week 6
On Friday I watched Monique's and Sophie's performance. I thought they both did extremely well, but sometimes they missed a few lyrics. I have the same struggle so for my next audition of 'Human', I will practice more and learn the words better, as I know this song very well I don't think it will be a struggle. This week am going to practise 'I see fire', and mainly focus on my targets which is to be less breathy and focus on high parts.
Video Evaluation
In my recording of 'Human' by Christina Perri, in my opinion I think it went pretty well, when it got to the high parts I was struggling and it would've been best if I had been more breathy. I think when it got to the chorus when it goes, 'I'm only human', I did well as I kind of let my voice escape and just sing with confidence. At the and of song I think I could of given it a better ending so it finished on a nice note. My stage presence was good for the confidence that I have, but confidence is something I'm always having to work on. I like staying with these types of singers because they sing low but can go high on a build up which is my target and I feel comfortable with these artists. Other artists I will look at will be male artists but more like their songs, I would like to focus on Ed Sheeran as I'm always singing along to his songs and know loads From my video recording of my audition I have seen the flaws and will carry on trying and improving and practising to perfect them to fit in with my following songs that I am going to do.
